Though we usually hear about air pollution, we don’t get much information about soil pollution. Just because people do not have much information concerning soil pollution, doesn’t imply that it isn’t just as important as any other type of pollution. It’s harder to detect because it occurs under ground and is not so easy to see. There are actually tests which can be run to show you if the soil is healthy enough to be put into use.
Tainted water could seep into the soil making the soil contaminated. When this takes place the soil becomes less productive as the plants, flowers or trees don’t grow as well. Today, many of the fruits and vegetables we eat have been impacted by contaminated soil. With the lack of healthy plants to remove the carbon monoxide from the air, the quality of our air continues to get worse. Almost all soil pollution has come about due to the neglect or blunder of human beings. Chemicals in storage tanks are placed below the ground, and they usually leak, allowing the chemicals to flow all over the soil. This has prompted plants to simply cease growing and making the area uninhabitable.
Chemicals seep into the soil from a number of sources, including landfills. Before garbage from businesses and individuals was dumped in landfills, that did little or no to safeguard the land. Water from rain or snow would carry these dangerous contaminants into the soil. The chemical substances then get into underground water tables or rivers and begin scattering across a region. At least landfills are today doing many things to safeguard the soil from the more harmful chemicals, like putting them in separate areas that have been lined with protective substances.
Pesticide sprays have been sprayed on the land for quite some time, which has also instigated much damage to the soil. Many environmental associations are lobbying the government to keep the soil from toxic chemicals. Through more strict laws on certain pesticides and the surge in organic farming, there’s hope that soil pollution will improve. Companies are initiating changes also like using biodegradable material. The nation with most severe problem is the US. Soil pollution in America are a result of no respect for the environment and fast advancement in technology.
Nevertheless, as more people find out about soil pollution, the more action is being taken to solve the problem. There are programs appearing throughout the country to deal with and work on the soil pollution problem. It is great that there are many people who are being more mindful about their health and are concerned about the soil.
